Nestled in between the mountains and the beaches of NC you will find a family trying to continue a legacy of farming that started on their homestead more than 100 years ago. The Stinson family’s farm, Hog Wild Farms, is located in the small town of Polkton, a town proud of it’s farming heritage. Hog Wild Farms was established in 2015 as an educational project for the Stinson family, specifically their daughter Gracie who was 10 at the time. After researching for a year she applied for and received a Farm Service Agency loan, which gave her the start she needed, one sow and one boar hog. Now 15, she has four sows and a boar and operates a farrow to finish farm. She raises Yorkshire/Berkshire/Duroc market pigs for the NC Natural Hog Growers Association and she sells by the piece, right off of the farm. Through her hard work and farming practices she has been certified by A Greener World as Animal Welfare Approved for the last four years. This certification recognizes best farming practices in the areas of shelters, breeding, feed consumption, and pasture management. She focuses on meat quality and consistency for consumers all across the great state of NC.
